Inverter Types
The Inverter is basically used to convert DC power from the power source, being solar or battery and converting this to an AC (alternating current) to power your household devices. There are a number of Inverters on the market, but basically fall into three categories, namely:
Grid-Tied
The Grid-Tied inverter is used to convert energy from renewable energy sources such as sun and wind to electrical power to share the load of appliances. There is no battery storage possibility and the grid-tied inverters will not operate in the absence of the grid / municipal source.
Off-grid
The Off-Grid inverter is connected to the grid in order to charge the connected batteries. as opposed to Grid-Tied where there is no battery storage. The Off-Grid inverter charges the connected batteries whilst connected to the Grid and switches over to backup with a failure from the grid. Once the Grid power restores, the inverter switches back to grid source.
Hybrid
The Hybrid inverter provides you with the best of both worlds., where you can have both Solar Panel and Battery connectivity. Different charging priorities can be set, utilizing solar to charge the batteries and where inefficiencies occur, switch over to grid charging, etc.
